Essential Reading - My Go To's
New to sobriety or the concept of life without alcohol? Know someone who's teetering on the sober / drinking seesaw, and want to share some resources with them? There's so many amazing people that have shed their light into the world, and their writing serves as a beacon to many searching for answers. When I was newly sober, I suddenly found myself with A LOT of free time, and no one to share it with, because all my social outlets and connections were directly tied to alcohol. Somehow the people I shared all of my bar time with couldn't find it in them to want share sober time with me... enter my newest hobby, reading.
Don't get me wrong - the AA literature is a must for anyone involved in the 12 step program, but I am also an advocate for casting your net wide, and in this case allowing yourself the room to find various authors that can speak to your soul, shed light on all the dark, and offer their words of wisdom to your new found emotions... and believe me there will be an entire showcase of all the emotions in a VERY short period of time. In my experience, I was a child when it came to dealing with all these new emotions, because I hadn't allowed myself to feel most of them for a very long period of time. I hid from them, because they scared me, and some bad stuff had happened that I wanted to keep buried way deep down so I could appear to be normal and happy for all of the world. Lies.
